Inorganic Chemistry honors John Corbett

​The February 2 issue of Inorganic Chemistry featured a tribute to the late Ames Laboratory chemist and Iowa State University Distinguished Professor John Corbett. The issue's cover featured the ISU campanile surrounded by models of some of the compounds discovered by Corbett during his 60-year career at Ames Lab and ISU. Inside, a two-page editorial discusses Corbett's career and highlights his major accomplishments.


Schwartz emphasizes continued excellence in State of the Laboratory address
The contributions of people, progress in facilities, and continuing excellence in scientific research — Director Adam Schwartz emphasized these points at the annual State of the Laboratory address held May 14, the 68th anniversary of the founding of the Ames Laboratory.


Ames Laboratory recognizes employee service
Thirty-five employees were recognized for their years of service at the annual Service Award Luncheon, held May 19 in the Scheman Building. Employees were recognized for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service to the Laboratory. Pat Emley (shown) was one of three honored for 40 years of service.


Ames Laboratory receives DOE Greenbuy Silver Award
Ames Laboratory recently met one of the 2014 Environmental Management System Steering Committee (EMSSC) goals by winning the DOE GreenBuy Program Silver Award for Sustainable Acquisitions.  The Laboratory was one of four laboratories to earn an award from the GreenBuy Program.

Summer interns gather for hands-on lab experiences

It's summer so Ames Laboratory is buzzing with students participating in several internship programs. Ames Laboratory has 26 Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program students, three Community College Internship (CCI) program participants and two participanting faculty members (with one student team member) in the Visiting Faculty Program (VFP). Students arrived on campus over the weekend and began their internships with orientation and training on Tuesday, May 26. The programs will run through July 31.


New lactation room available for nursing mothers
Ames Laboratory has opened a new lactation room for nursing mothers in Room 8 of Spedding Hall (Ground Floor).


Former Ames Laboratory SULI Intern Chalks up Another Success

​The awards for research excellence just keep stacking up for Andrew Fidler, former Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program intern at the Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory. Fidler was named one of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Director’s Fellows in 2014.
