The Midwest Forensics Resource Center (MFRC) has equipped a teaching laboratory in the Ames Laboratory with one Agilent gas chromatograph - mass spectrometer (GC-MS) and one Agilent heart-cut multidimensional GC-MS, which allows higher specificity identification of mixtures. These systems were acquired to allow more hands-on training opportunities for forensic scientists through the MFRC training programs, as well as to provide research opportunities in forensic toxicology. The instrumentation is used for method development and evaluation, as well as validation of methods for drug and metabolite identification in bodily fluids.
