Improvements to ICP Torches for Monitoring Trace Radionuclides by ICP-MS

DESCRIPTION:

The objectives of this project are:  a) to improve the capabilities of the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) to make it a more sensitive and accurate atomization-ionization source for direct solids analysis by laser ablation, and b) to develop an ICP with very low argon consumption (~4 L/min, compared to the usual 15 L/min) without compromising performance, primarily to make ICP Mass Spectrometry (MS) better suited to field deployment.
